Guest speakers

  1. Mark Gaither will give us an update on WSA’s achievements and enrollment.

  2. Taylor Hams and Barbara Johnson will be asking for input regarding placing warning signage around Baltimore’s waterways due to the high bacterial levels from the chronic sewage overflows. (Currently there is no signage and under MD law it is required to warn the public of the dangers of polluted water when fishing, kayaking, and other recreation on the water.) The Department of Public Works requested that they present a specific list of locations where signs should be placed so they are looking for our input.

Possible vote: discussion on the findings from the Land Use committee’s meeting with CHAP

The Land Use committee met with CHAP to inquire about the process of being designated a historic district subject to commission review and the implications of such a designation. Some of the pros are that it preserves the historic character of the neighborhood and usually helps to maintain a higher market value, whereas some of the cons are that all exterior work is subject to regulatory review.

We will be discussing the pros and cons of the process of being designated as an historic district and may take a vote as to if we want to proceed or not. (If we were to proceed, we would need to send a letter to the Mayor, all properties in our boundaries would be notified and surveyed by the City, a hearing would be held to determine whether our outreach efforts are sufficient, a second hearing would consider the responses from each property owner, the planning commission would hold a public hearing and the final step would be a city ordinance.)

To be eligible to vote, you must have paid your membership dues for 2020, be age 18+, live in our boundaries, and have attended at least 2 of the last preceding 11 meetings.

The community meeting starts promptly at 7:00pm and runs from 1 to 1-1/2 hours depending on discussions. Join us!
