October 2020 Community Meeting Recap

Guest Speaker
Councilman Ryan Dorsey discussed City Council Bill 20-0561 entitled “Fossil Fuel Infrastructures.” The purpose of the Bill is to reduce and discourage reliance on fossil fuels and get people walking instead of driving. Councilman Dorsey stated the Bill is not going to be passed this year and may propose it again. (The UFPIA members did not take a vote.)
Committee reports
Beautification
The UFPIA will have a bulk trash dumpster with Fell’s Prospect on Nov. 7th (location TBD); check our social media for details closer to the date).
Monthly clean-ups will be held on the second Saturday of each month.
Our online auction runs until 11:59pm on Oct. 25th.
Mosaic workshops for tree pit medallions are almost completed.
We met with NDC to evaluate the Lady Day Way enhancement project.
Education
Cloth shopping bags are needed for Commodore John Rogers for book distribution; text Suzanne at 443-850-6675 for drop-off details.
Land Use
The Committee met with the Neighborhood Design Center and were informed that it could cost $25K to hire them to work on a master plan; they suggested meeting with our community planner as the next step to a master plan; will meet with Matt DeSantis.
Safety

Traffic & Parking
Dept. of Transportation is moving forward with a feasibility study of calming measures for S Wolfe and S Washington.
Complete Streets is seeking input on what residents are looking for in more people-friendly streets; virtual meetings will be held on 10/21, 22, 28 and 29 (all dates are the same discussion); see our social media for details.
New Business
David Bishai, Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, stated they are aiming for 70% for this fall's flu vaccine campaign for Baltimore, leaving nobody behind. (Best ever has been 50%.) For a map of vaccine locations: https://health.baltimorecity.gov/flu or more at https://d1can.weebly.com/.

Our November speaker will be Dr. Larry Nunley and Kristyn Oldendorf of the Dept. of Public Works (DPW) and will give an update on the recycling program, what materials are and aren’t recyclable, etc. Also, we may have speakers from Wheelabrator and WeCanBmore talk about incineration to energy and community impact.
